The dental implant substitutes the root of a lost tooth or teeth. It is made of 99% pure titanium, which is inert metal and does react with the patients’ system. Advantage of the titanium is in its biologic tolerance, which allows the bone to connect with it and therefore the implant is stabilized in the bone. This is an daily procedure which is very predictable and with a proven clinical success. After implant insertion, a short period is required for bone to connect with the implant, although there are some occasions where the implant is placed immediately after tooth extraction together with the crown thus increasing patient comfort and acceptance.

Tooth bleaching is a harmless procedure that can be done either in home or office conditions. Home bleaching is more popular and is done via transparent trays, custom made for every patient, that are placed on the teeth. The bleaching effect is relaible and proven and when certain staining foods and drinks are avoided the effect is even more pronounced.
Contemporary conception that yields the best results in dental bleaching is when home and office bleaching are combined. Initially we start off with an office procedure and the patient continues to bleach at home with the home bleaching.
Dental bleaching can be done also as an additive procedure when the aim is to rejuvenate and brighten the smile with or without veneers.
Redness in the gums and bleeding when brushing are the first telltale signs of gum inflammation. In such cases, the patient is subjected to a professional dental cleaning, which removes plaque and calculus from the teeth. As a result the gum inflammation (gingivitis) resolves and the patient is healthy again. If the gingivitis is left untreated, it can transform into a periodontal disease (periodontitis). Perio disease is characterized by gum recession and root exposure, bone loss around teeth, tooth loosening or wiggling and eventual loss of the tooth. In periodontitis, the choice treatment is cleaning the teeth from plaque and calculus couple with deep pocket debridement wherever present. In some limited cases an open cleaning is performed, which a limited surgical procedure. After the resolution of the disease the patient is placed on maintenance therapy, which aims at preventing a new recurrence of the disease.
When there is a recession of the gums and root exposure in the neck of the tooth,due to traumatic brushing, malposition of tooth or teeth or root decay,
a piece of soft tissue is added to neck in order to remedy the gum and return it to its initial position. In that way tooth sensitivity is avoided when consuming hot or cold drinks and food as well as a future progression and worsening of the recession.
Porcelain fused to metal crown (PFM crown)
Popular method of restoring chipped, non-vital or severely destroyed teeth. PFM crown consists of a metal framework on top of which a ceramic is added. An advantage of PFM is its strength, disadvantage is greyish discolouration of the gum, more invasive burring of the tooth and possible chipping of the ceramic from the metal.
All ceramic crown
Pressed ceramic – most popular way of restoring chipped, non-vital or severely destroyed teeth. It is a monolithic ceramic crown, highly esthetic with incredible strenght and minimally invasive preparation of the tooth.
Zirconium crown – popular method of restoring teeth, it has the greatest strength, it is esthetic but is indicated for back teeth only. Clear disadvantage is its hardness which tends to wear off the opposing dentition quickly.
Veneers are an elegant and yet sparing way to better your smile with minimal intervention on your teeth.
What are they?
They are ceramic tiles or fingernails which are glued to the outer frontal surface of your teeth, thus changing permanently their form, colour and proportions. After bonding the veneers are as strong and durable as the natural teeth and require the same care as them.
Ceramic veneers are effective solution when smile enhancement is required or when there is chipping, space between teeth, crooked teeth, colouring, decay and etc.
This is minimally invasive and durable way of restoring back teeth destroyed by extensive decay, replacement of large old fillings, chipped teeth, fractures. Other name for this type of lab restoration is ceramic inlay and overlay. They are manufactured in the dental lab from pressed ceramics thus giving them excellent wear resistance, beautiful esthetics and long lasting life. The ceramic is an inert material which does not retain plaque and calculus, does not cause allergies and is tolerated extremely well by the gum.
This is a cheaper restoration material compared to the ceramic. Composite is applicable to the back teeth destroyed by decay, replacement of large old fillings, chipped teeth, fractures and etc. This type of restoration is commonly referred to as composite inlay and overlay.
Composite is a resin based material, which can change colour slightly over time, need to be polished every 6 months in order to retain its luster and wears off quicker than the ceramic.
Bonding is a procedure, which is limited to the frontal teeth that are restored via direct application of the composite material by the dentist to the teeth. This method is applicable with severely destroyed or worn off frontal teeth, chipped teeth, mild fractures, to close space between teeth, correction in the form, colour and proportions. Composite bonding is a cheaper alternative to the ceramic veneers, which is even less invasive and completed in a couple of visits.

In the course of the dental treatment when the pulp (nerve) of the tooth is infected, it has to be removed to prevent further pain and swelling, and the root canals need to be cleaned and filled. This pulp infection can be due to large decay, micro leakage next to a filling or crown or a large fracture. In other cases already treated teeth show signs of recurring infection need to retreated in order to clean the canals. Regardless of the reason, the root canal treatment must be done with precision, all existing canals must to be found, cleaned and filled in order to secure the longevity of the tooth in the mouth. There are cases where finding and cleaning the canals is difficult therefore dental microscopes are used.
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that specialises in the proper facial skeletal development, together with the jaws and correct set up of the teeth in the dental arch.
In children all this is achieved with removable appliances and at a later stage if need be brackets are used. The appliances are used to widen the arches and create space while the brackets align the teeth in the jaws. This combination produces a stable result that ensures the longevity of the dentition and general health of your child.
In adults, brackets are most popular and used most often but sometimes invisible splints like “Clear Aligner” offer very good results with less discomfort.
What are they?
Brackets are metallic or ceramic buttons that are glued temporarily to the outer surface of the teeth and are used to shift and align them in the dental arch.
Invisible splints are removable appliances that are used in patients that refuse to wear brackets. They yield very good results but have narrow specifications since their ability to shift teeth is limited.

What is included in the prophylaxis appointment for adults:
The patient is taught how to brush properly and effectively, also how to select and use each of the tools for oral hygiene maintenance – floss, brush, toothpaste and mouthwash.
Professional dental cleaning of calculus with ultrasonic and hand instruments, followed by polishing with Air Flow to remove stains and bacteria. Finally brush and toothpaste are used to remove plaque and to sooth the gums.
There may be need to come to additional appointments, if there is calculus below the gums, which is very robust and hard to remove.
How often should I come for a prophylaxis to the dentist:
Dental cleaning is usually carried out every 6 months in healthy individuals.
Dental cleaning is done every 3 to 4 months for patients with gum problems such as perio disease.
Before any surgical intervention, dental cleaning is mandatory to reduce the risk of complications.
The diode laser is a great tool and addition for any surgery for a variety of reasons. It is used for teeth whitening, treatment of canker sores, herpetic & aphthous ulcers of the oral mucosa. Further uses are as an adjunct to root canal therapy such as root canal sterilisation and lots of soft-tissue procedures.
ARCUSdigma II is a computer system able to register patient’s jaw movements and positions thus our on site laboratory could manufacture the final restorations with accuracy and precision.
This high-tech device is used to detect a patient’s bite and is used extensively in patients that have experienced bite issues and discomfort.
It uses ultrasonic waves to visualise the problem graphically and therefore the final restorations require very little to no adjustment.
Thus the inaccuracy factor can now be eliminated through ARCUSdigma II which has proven to be a reliable device in diagnosis as well as therapy.

Dr. Ognian Marinov graduated dentistry at Sofia Medical University in 1975. After 5 years he obtained his masters degree in prosthodontics and worked in Sofia until 1990. Subsequently he left to work and live in Melbourne, Australia where he established his own dental practice which is still up and running after 25 years of service to his patients. Dr. Ognian Marinov is in Sofia for 4 months every year and he works primarily prosthodontics and orthodontics for children and adults. He has been to an extensive amount of workshops and hands-on courses at an international level and we at Sky Dental Clinic are very grateful and appreciative that we can rely on his huge experience and opinion.
Dr. Kalin Marinov graduated dentistry at Sofia Medical University. He has a keen interest in implantology, prothodontics and esthetic dentistry. He has been on an exchange at the Prosthodontics department at the Dental University of Homburg, Germany and later on at the Dental University of Freiburg, again in Germany. During BulDental in May 2013 he was involved with Dental Tribune Study Club Symposia and presented a lecture on “Rubber Dam placement techniques”. In that same month he presented another lecture on “Perfection in functional diagnostics – ARCUSdigma 2”. Later on, in September 2013 he presented a lecture and subsequent hands-on course on “Basic principles in functional diagnostics – Articulators and Facebow” with his Dental Technician MarianMarinov. During 2013 and 2014 was a lecturer at Sofia Dental Meeting and in May 2015, he presented another lecture and hands-on course on “Basic principles in functional diagnostics – Articulators and Facebow”.
Marian Marinov started a Diploma of Dental Technology Course in 2001 and graduated in 2004 at RMIT University Melbourne. During his apprenticeship he was working in “Pro Dents” dental lab and “Peter Vryonis Ceramist VIC” PTY LTD as the main focus of his education was fabrication of fixed dental prosthetics, pressable restorations; CAD/CAM and partial Co-Cr denture frameworks and precision attachments frameworks. After completion of his apprenticeship, he worked in Australia untill 2006 when he decided to return to Bulgaria where he was employed at “Ivan Bourdjev Dental Studio” till 2010. This was a pivotal year for him since 2010 was the year that he opened his own business. From 2010 to 2014 he was a partner and manager of “Schappe Bulgaria SMTL” which was a branch of German based lab “Schappe GMBH”. From then onwards he was a manager and owner of “Sky Dental Lab SMTL”. During the many years of his career, he continued his professional development and attended many courses such as: Bego – Academia Dental Milling and Precision Attachment. Bego – Co-Cr dentures fabrication in Bremen; KAVO – functional diagnostics of jaw movements, articulators programming, ARCUSdigma computer assisted articulation and digital workflow in the lab in Biberach, Germany, Advanced course for dental technicians working with Initial MC and LiSi, as well as Advanced courses of InLine and E-max porcelain and substructures. He has attended various courses regarding leading implantology systems such as “Straumman” “Noble Biocare”, “Astra Tech”, “Zimmer”, course for Ti casting alloys at Degussa, Hands – on Fabrication Bio-HPP frameworks and restorations and many more.

DeliveriesIn the area of Sofia the lab will pick-up and deliver the work.In areas outside Sofia the pick-up costs are covered by the sender the delivery coast is covered by the lab.
Lab CardsWe kindly advice you to fill in Lab cards, in great details regarding; required construction, shade, any specific needs and to apply picture files if available. Lab cards will be delivered to you by the lab.
Shade matching.In order to make our work more accurate please notify the lab which shade guide do you use (vita classic; Ivoclar, Vita 3D etc).In cases when shade is hard to determine or is not fitting in the shade guide we prefer the patient to visit our lab for individual matching.Payment options:
- Bank – invoices that are payable to our account are issued on a monthly bases, if patient requires individual invoice please notify the lab.
- Cash payment – are made upon completion of the work, and invoices are issued by the end of the current month.
Please be advices if we receive a study models, old constructions and so on pack them well in bubble wrap in order to prevent their damage.
With alginate impressions pack them in self sealed bags, wrapped in wet paper tissues to avoid deformation.
